In 1957, D.C. became the first large city in the United States to be majority African American. In the early 1970's, the city had its peak Black population over the last century, and the term, "Chocolate City" became synonymous with The Nation's Capitol.
It was only fitting that the first candle release was one that paid the ultimate respect to the city that raised us. Chocolate City is more than just a name; it's a state of mind and a way of life. From its history, to its culture, and to its people, DC has a long-standing, storied memoir that we want to tell through scent.
